The bad dream that was

The final verse of the French version of I Dreamed a Dream goes like this

J'avais rêvé d'une autre vie
A peine commençait elle s'achève
(I had a dream of a different life
It ended as soon as it began)

I know that my journey with the Firm was only 11 months long. I did not wait another month to give it a year. Heck I did not even postpone my resignation for two days in order to be entitled to the bonus (which has been described as "minimal, if any" by the management).

I have been nagging and complaining to resign from day 3 (because day 1 and 2 was in PD). But I was just fitting in with everyone else. If an auditor ever tells you that the thought of resigning has never came through his mind, or if he never complains about his work, he's either a) a liar b) a lunatic or c) a genuinely dedicated workaholic employee.

To be honest, I've had it easy. I don't think I even deserve to complain, if you compared what others have gone through with what I have gone through. The latest that I've worked until was 1 a.m. And it was only that once. Normally I get off at 9 or 10, which is considered early by most, 11 or 12 some of the times.

Most of my peers who are not in the Firm but are in the accounting field think that I am somewhat a quitter. My peers who are in the Firm think that I am lucky to get out of the hell hole. If you think that the reason I quit is because I couldn't stand the working culture, then yes I am a quitter. But the truth is, although that was what started the whole idea of quitting, it was another event that triggered the resignation (details of which shall remain between those who know).

I quit because I was taking up my responsibility. Even though my resignation did not make things any better, at least it cleared up my conscience. So this is not running away from something. It's just running towards something on a different track.

Ready, set, GO!!!
