Obsolete? How dare you!
Let me explain to you in a layman's words what do different people in the accounting and finance department do.
Traders - They make the mess, but the mess is necessary in order to generate revenue
Bookkeeper - They count how much mess has been made
Accountants - They decide how to clean up the mess and in order to make everything look tidy again and nothing has gone missing. Some ensure that the mess made has indeed generated enough income so that the mess was worth it
Auditors - They make sure that everything is in place and question if something that should be there isn't and if something that shouldn't be there is
Finance - They find out ways on how to make the least mess in order to generate the most revenue
Tax - They decide on how much of the mess AND the revenue belong to the government.
So as you can see, non of these jobs is mechanizable. The computer can only calculate that 1 + 2 is equal to 3, but someone has to decide what are and how do we get 1 and 2, someone has to key in 1 and 2, someone has to identify what does the 3 actually mean, and someone has to make sure that the answer given is 3 and that the number 3 is actually the sum of 1 and 2. Oh yes, and someone has to come up with the idea to use a calculator instead of counting sticks or an abacus to do the calculation.
Plus, when company is rolling its carpet (gulung tikar), these people would be among the last to go.
