Financial Reporting Standards 139 Financial Instrument, Recognition and Measurement

'Eh, kita patut buat somethingla. Korang tengok HR, tiap-tiap kali ada birthday, diorang sambut. Kita kenalah buat macam tu jugak, barulah ada aktiviti sikit.'

Someone shouted from behind 'Oklah Encik Zul, esok kita pergi taman kat bawah tu ramai-ramai.'

This week I have to take LRT to work since it's the week where my brother 'parks' my nephew at his in laws' instead of our house (kalau tak, tumpang dia je). When I got out of my car at Kelana Jaya station, I thought 'Malasnya nak berasak-asak naik tin sardin tu pagi-pagi buta ni'. But when I got to the platform, I was southern-pig-tail-macaque-ly surprised (terkejut beruk) to see that the commuters, Malaysians mind-you, were lining up properly. This, in a country where road signs are merely suggestions and turning signals are deemed as unnecessary car accessories (especially among the non-male drivers. Non male means either it's female or male with female attributes*) is totally new to me.

Then, the second wave of shock came to me. People actually stopped boarding the train when the first signal sounded, even when there's still room inside and there's still time to board. I thought 'Ini sudah macam negara Jepun' to quote Ismet Ulam Raja from 3 Abdul. Then I thought 'First station je kot'. I was wrong to assume that. People also queue up in other stations especially Universiti, Sentral, Masjid Jamek and KLCC. The same thing also happened when I took the train home.

Wow.

*Nota Kaki:
'Ini mesti perempuan, tak pun lelaki berjiwa perempuan'
- quoted from a male driver who insisted on remaining anonymous.

So it has been almost two weeks since I started my practical on Floor 35,Tower 1, KLCC. Two weeks, and I already have enough materials to make a compendium of office jokes and anecdotes. But in a nutshell, my two weeks can be described as the following 'Mak, when you said I'll learn everything at work and only 10% of what I've learned will be used, I didn't expect to spend my first 2 weeks, from 9 to 5, purely reading on FRS 139 Financial Instrument, Recognition and Measurement.'
